Tyrannosaurus rex (tie-RAN-oh-SORE-us REX) Brown, 1902
Tyrannosaurus rex means ‘Tyrant Lizard King’ and comes from the Greek word ‘tyranno’ meaning tyrant, ’saurus’ meaning lizard and ‘rex’ meaning king. T-Rex was probably one of the largest and most terrifying carnivores of its time. Tyrannosaurus rex was up to 40 feet (12.4 m) long, about 15 to 20 feet (4.6 to 6 m) tall with arms only about 3 feet (1 m) long. Tyrannosaurus rex was roughly 5 to 7 tons in weight and lived in the Late Cretaceous, 68-65 million years ago.
