Release date set for new Sherlock Holmes movie

March 5, 2009

Director Guy Ritchie has decided to tackle a new movie adaptation based on Arthur Conan Doyle's detective Sherlock Holmes. The movie, simply titled Sherlock Holmes, stars Robert Downey, Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson. Ritchie said he was a huge fan of the stories. "We're trying to be as authentic as we can to the original Sherlock Holmes. We've tried to include a bit more Conan Doyle in it."  He also said the film was a fresh take on Holmes which was "kind of returning to a little bit more of what the stories always had in them and the scale of them and the canvas is so huge I just don't think they've ever had the budget to fully tell the story in a really big, fun way."  The movie Sherlock Holmes is scheduled to be released December 25, 2009.  The movie will introduce Sherlock Holmes to a new generation and is sure to increase interest in all things Sherlock Holmes!
